Overview:
Step into the world of timeless craftsmanship in this immersive workshop exploring Chinkin (沈金)—a traditional technique in East Asian lacquer art.
In this meditative, hands-on session, you’ll carve delicate patterns—like peonies, plum blossoms, or small animals—into a hand-lacquered panel using a traditional chisel, then apply shimmering gold powder with natural lacquer. The subtle beauty of Chinkin lies in its precision, patience, and quiet glow—inviting you to slow down and find joy in detail.
Led by artist Zhiheng Gong, this session offers a rare chance to experience a refined artform that merges Chinese lacquer work with Japanese Maki-e aesthetics. No prior experience is required—all tools and materials will be provided. You’ll leave with a finished artwork and a deepened appreciation of the art of “painting with gold.”
