While the summer is at its peak in New York, if you pay attention, you can capture the signals of the incoming fall—like the colorful daisies in the parks, and the fallen leaves of London plane. Starting from Liqiu (Beginning of Autumn) solar term, all creatures under heaven will begin to conserve their power, and the summer heat will give way to clear and pleasant weather. At this time of year, tasting a peaceful brew of tea can help us to be mindful of the rhythm of nature.

On August 7th, 7s Art will host the Tea Gathering in Liqiu Solar Term. We will present to New York tea lovers a peaceful sanctum in this busy city so that our guests can gain peace of mind by sipping tea together.

Like the previous tea gathering in the Solar Term series, 7s Art will infuse its unique aesthetics inherited from the Chinese scholars' tradition into all aspects of the event—from the spacial and chaxi (tea stage/theater) arrangement to the selection and preparation of teas and desserts, as well as the tea gathering procedure. We will present to New York's tea lovers a delicate experience of taste and aesthetics to allow the guests to feel the essence of the Liqiu period.

Teas to Taste

First Half: 2022 Mengding Huangya (Yellow Sprout)

Mt. Mengding, located in Ya’an City in Sichuan, is the first recorded place where tea was artificially cultivated. Mengding tea has been a tribute tea for over a thousand years since the Tang dynasty, and scholars and poets have also long enjoyed it. Mengding Huangya was a kind of yellow tea developed based on the traditional Mengding tea processing method.

The High Mountain Mengding Huangya we are serving this time has a rich and elegant aroma and a fresh and mellow taste that brings the tea lover a joyful and peaceful tasting experience.

2010 Fuding Shoumei (Longevity Eyebrow)

White tea is precious not only for its minimal processing and elegant tasting but also for its aging potential. It’s widely spread that white tea is “tea in the first year, herbal medicine in the third, and treasure since the seventh.” With proper storage, the soup color of white tea will gradually become orange-yellow and orange-red while its taste becomes mellower, and its aroma will remind the drinker of herbal medicine and dates.

The twelve-year-aged Shoumei (Longevity Eyebrow) to be served in this tea gathering has a reddish brown color and white fuzz on the dry leaves, an orange-yellow and bright soup color, and a gentle taste of sweetness and mellowness.
