We just entered the second solar term in summer—Xiaoman. Literally translated as "small-full", the name "Xiaoman" means that for crops like wheat, the grains are filling but not yet ripening. The days are getting warmer. While flowers are no longer blossoming, we now enjoy the various shades of green and the lively symphony of birds. Depending on your perspective, the Xiaoman period can feel either warm and torrid or cool and soothing. A cup of tea at this moment is a perfect way for us to calm down and regain peace of mind.

On June 5th, 7s Art will host the Tea Gathering in Xiaoman Solar Term. We will serve the Shifeng Longjing tea freshly harvested and produced this spring. It is a wonder that this tea has traveled tens of thousands of miles from China to New York despite so many transportation restrictions. Also noteworthy is that this year's tea has a flowery aroma that brings back the memories of Shifeng mountain.

Like the previous tea gathering in the Solar Term series, 7s Art will infuse its unique aesthetics inherited from the Chinese scholars' tradition into all aspects of the event—from the spacial and chaxi (tea stage/theater) arrangement to the selection and preparation of teas and desserts, as well as the tea gathering procedure. We will present to New York's tea lovers a delicate experience of taste and aesthetics to allow the guests to feel the essence of the Xiaoman period.

Teas to Taste

First Half: 2022 Mingqian Shifeng Longjing (Dragon Well)

The Xihu Longjing (West Lake Dragon Well) tea has a history of over a thousand years and has long been enjoyed and praised by scholars and poets. As the highest grade of Xihu Longjing, Shifeng Longjing (Lion Mountain Dragon Well) is rare and precious. The Mingqian (pre-Qingming solar term) Shifeng Longjing we are serving this time has an elegant orchid aroma, a fresh and delicate taste, and a mouth-watering and long-lasting aftertaste.

Second Half: 2020 Bolin Heidaye Raw Pu'er

The Pu'er tea we will be serving is cultivated among the mountain creeks at an elevation of over 6,500 feet, the Mengku Heidaye (Mengku black big leaf) shares a similar variety as Bingdao Heidaye, often referred to as the “Bingdao Pu'er among creeks." Its aroma is rich, the tea soup is delicate in the mouth, has a fine texture and rock-candy sweetness, and its long-lasting aftertaste has a distinct coolness.
