7s Art Workshop | Learn Ikebana on Chinese Double-Seventh Day!

  • Artosino 265 West 37th Street New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

7s Art Workshop is online!

We will host an Ikebana Workshop on August 6 at Artosino in Manhattan (265 W 37th St, New York, NY 10018).

You will learn Ikenobo ikebana, the oldest and largest school of Ikebana, accompanied with Guqin music and Chinese tea on this romantic afternoon!

What is Ikenobo ikebana?

More than putting flowers in a container, ikebana is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. Contrary to the idea of floral arrangement as a collection of particolored or multicolored arrangement of blooms, ikebana often emphasizes oter areas of the plant, such as its stems and leaves, and draws emphasis toward shape, line, and form.

Instructor: Ms. Paula Tam

Ms Paula Tam has rich experience in teaching Ikenobo ikebana for over 20 years. She was entitled "Junkatoku" – Professor of Ikebana, the first of the four highest Ikenobodiplomas from Ikenobo Floral Art in 2014.

Her arrangements have been exhibited in numerous institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New Museum, Tenri Gallery, Japanese Stroll Garden etc. She was invited to give ikebana demonstrations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and for Ikebana International New York Chapter.

Besides teaching, she is serving as advisor of Ikebana International New York Chapter and Ikebana Coordinator of Japanese Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She also served as president of Ikebana International New York Chapter from June 2013 to May 2015 and as treasurer from 2009 to 2013. She was also a Board Member of Ikenobo Ikebana Society NYC Chapter from 2006 to 2013.

All participants will be grouped in two and try out Ikebana under the guidance of Ms. Paula Tam. You can take your work back at home after the workshop!
