Chinese Painting Workshop: Draw Bamboo on the Palace Fan with Ink and Brush

Led by artist Kevin Ge, this hands-on class will introduce the essential brush strokes for depicting bamboo leaves, branches, and stalks. Through focused practice, you’ll develop an understanding of ink flow, brush control, and the dynamic rhythm that defines Chinese painting.

Whether you're completely new to painting or refining your existing skills, this workshop offers a meditative, culturally rich experience. You’ll also enjoy connecting with fellow art and culture enthusiasts in a welcoming, mindful setting.

Part 1: Introduction to Bamboo in Chinese Art

  • Explore the symbolic meanings of bamboo in Chinese culture

  • Overview of brush painting on silk vs. paper

Part 2: Brush & Ink Techniques on the Palace Fan

  • How to hold and control the brush for fan surfaces

  • Step-by-step instruction on painting bamboo stalks, joints, and leaves

  • Composition tips for circular/silk fan formats

Part 3: Guided Creative Practice

  • Participants begin painting their own silk palace fans

  • Focus on layering ink, balancing elements, and brush flow

Part 4: Individual Feedback & Finishing Touches

  • Instructor offers 1-on-1 guidance and suggestions

  • Final enhancements and optional inscription or seal placement
